I have been loving reading the book “Awaken the Giant Within’ by Anthony Robbins. It is filled with so much to learn, to put into practice and to share with others! As I was reading something in there last night, I thought ‘How simple! – I must do this!’ Let me explain….


Is there something in your life right now, which is not bringing happiness/success/fulfillment to you? Think about that one thing for the purpose of this exercise. Now ask yourself these questions:

  1. “How will you know when this something brings you happiness/success/fulfillment?”
  2. “What has to happen in order for you to have that?

For example I am sitting here right now thinking I want to be really fit. How will I know that I am really fit? What has to happen in order for me to feel really fit?
The first thought that comes to mind is… I will know because I will wake up with excitement 4-5 times a week to walk, run or do whatever the activity for 40 minutes. I will do it with joy, a big smile on my face and minimal puffing! I’m not sure about you, but as I reflect on this personal rule I have somehow unconsciously created, it is ‘no wonder’ I FEEL as though I will never get there!

I am thinking I definitely want to be more flexible with this rule to feel fit on a consistent basis! So I am changing it to…

By waking up and putting on my running shoes and stepping out the front door for some kind of physical activity… I AM FIT! I can see by being more flexible with my personal rule on how to achieve the feeling of FIT, I will feel fit from the beginning. As a flow on effect of feeling so fit, I know within time, I will be doing it with joy, a big smile on my face and much less puffing! 🙂

You could be winning and feel like you are loosing because the scorecard you are using is unfair.

We certainly want to use the power of goals, the allure of a compelling future, to pull ourselves forward, but we must make sure that at the bottom of it all we have rules to allow us to be happy anytime we want. I personally think it comes back to creating our vision, setting our goals and making sure we enjoy the journey!


Let’s see how I go with my new journey of ‘feeling fit!’ I would love for you to join me in creating some more flexible and empowering rules around something you want to feel more of on a consistent basis in your life!

    Thanks Belinda,
    You are so right about setting our own personal scorecard with unrealistic targets.
    I will rethink tonight my own fitness scorecard and see if I can set more realistic targets which will in turn help me to feel like I am making progress toward my goals.
    I’m not sure why I seem to set an all or nothing rule up in my head. Craziness but let me see if I can change that starting right now.
    It does not mean my end goal has changed……just my expectation on how I will achieve it. I have not really been enjoying the journey. In fact, even fighting against it in my head. Even if it takes me a little longer than I would like, I’m sure meeting smaller targets and celebrating those with joy and passion, will stop me from giving up when I have not met my greater expectations.
    Going to get myself a copy of “Awaken the Giant Within”. Sounds like it could be the inspiration I need.

      Thanks Sue! I really acknowledge you for being so open and for sharing! A great place to start is from LOVE and knowing that you have done the best you could with what you had up until now, however that might have looked like for you. It is great to set big goals that inspire and move you so definitely keep doing that! Like you say, simply have a play with the rules you currently have around feeling fit or whatever the specific feeling is you want to have. The rules need to be within your control so that you are at cause, not effect. They need to be simple enough for you to be feeling the feeling you want to feel more often. Can you imagine if your rules allowed you to feel FIT everyday? What will that mean? I’m not sure about you but for me it would make me MOVE more and in turn this would have me reach my end goal all whilst loving the adventure getting there and feeling great along the way. As I said have fun with it – have a play and see what you come up with! I love a strategy which Lorna Jane uses and that is to wear ‘activewear’ more often as it inspires you to move more even when you may not have planned to. ENJOY! (o:
